Marina de Van’s debut feature shocked audiences and critics when it premiered. The film remained a cult classic for years in the New French Extremity movement slowly racking up fans and detractors. In 2025, Severin Films released an extensive two disc version with de Van’s film and a bunch of extras including this episode!

    I watched this movie so long ago there were less than 100 lines in the text file I was using to keep track of movies I’d seen (starting sometime after 2012, almost certainly over a decade ago). There are now over 2000 lines. I wouldn’t have thought to lump it into New French Extremity because it was more psychological and without any antagonists. I also watched de Van’s Don’t Look Back, but haven’t seen any of her subsequent stuff.
